Multiplier Event UK
Date: Monday 15th July, 9:30am – 12:30pm
Venue: 6th Form Block, Ripley St Thomas Academy, Ashton Road, Lancaster, LA1 4RS.
This was one of two events held in Lancaster. Ripley St Thomas Academy is a large secondary school in the Centre of Lancaster with nearly 1800 students, of which 400 are in the sixth form.
The class where the multiplier was held has just 15 students available, as others were on other enrichment programmes.
Nonetheless the class was shown an introduction and the detail of the project and what it hoped to achieve, along with the website, Moodle platform and the downloadable and online resources.
Module 3 on Wages, Salary and payslips, was then delivered to the class by David Evans, as well as the accompanying video.
Feedback was very positive, not least because about half the class had a part time job, and were unsure of aspects of work such as tax and national insurance. Therefore, for many the information was immediately relevant.
DE discussed the PFP programme with members of staff. They will look seriously at adopting some modules for the next academic year, as it is becoming more highlighted as a need at national level.
Constructive feedback included that the module slides were too wordy, DE considered changing some to graphics.
Date: Wednesday 14th August, 9:30am – 12:30pm
Venue: Block A, University of Cumbria, Bowerham Road, Lancaster, LA1 3DJ
This was the second of two events held in Lancaster. The University of Cumbria is a multi-campus University with several sites in the North West of England.
The National Citizenship Service programme (NCS), is a national government programme open to all teenagers aged 15-17.
Teenagers discover who they are during a three-week summer programme designed to test their personality, abilities and leadership skills.
Over 500,000 Young people have already taken part. The age range was therefore ideal for the Personal Finance Programme.
On the day of the event 31 students were in attendance. The class was shown an introduction and the detail of the project and what it hoped to achieve, along with the website, Moodle platform and the downloadable and online resources.
Module 3 on Wages, Salary and payslips, was then delivered to the class by David Evans, as well as the accompanying video.
The young people enthusiastically took part in the exercises and challenges, although the incentive of chocolate was definitely a motivating factor!
Feedback was very positive, with about half the class having part time jobs, and keen to learn about their pay, and the payslip, that some, but not all received.
It also helped them in aspects they were unsure of such as tax and national insurance. Therefore, for many the information was immediately relevant.
DE discussed the PFP programme with members of staff. They will look seriously at adopting some modules for the next summer programme.
DE modified the presentation given to reduce the wordiness of the slides following the previous Multiplier. Again, feedback was positive, with all aspects of the day being rated a very good or excellent.
